Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou plans to approach the North London Derby like any other big game, refusing to place extra significance on it despite Arsenal being their biggest rivals.
Postecoglou is a man driven by the desire to win, no matter the opponent or occasion. Towards the end of last season, in a match against Manchester City, some Spurs fans expressed their willingness to see the team lose, hoping it would damage Arsenal’s title hopes.
Postecoglou was livid, frustrated by what he saw as a ‘lack of winning mentality’—a mindset he has made it his mission to change at Tottenham.
In the pre-match press conference ahead ahead of the North London Derby, the Aussie spoke about the game against Manchester City from last season. “I don’t feel any more pressure… I want to win every game. It doesn’t change anything. ”

Postecoglou holds deep respect for Tottenham’s fans, recognizing them as an important part of the club. However, he knows he can’t approach things the way fans do, as he is responsible for the club’s overall success.
“My role is to try and give them a team that provides hope, belief, and joy,” Postecoglou said. “But I’m not going to tell them how to feel… it’s not who I am.”
While he emphasized his desire to win big games, Postecoglou was quick to point out that it’s not his sole measure of success, especially after last season’s experience. Tottenham began that campaign on a high, winning key matches early on, but ultimately faltered toward the end, missing out on a Champions League spot.

With that in mind, Postecoglou seeks a more balanced approach. He wants his squad to adopt a winning mentality regardless of the opponent. Tottenham’s start to the 2024/25 season has been shaky, with just one win, one loss, and a draw from their first three matches.
