Giovani Lo Celso was once expected to become one of the Premier League’s top midfielders, but things didn’t quite go his way at Tottenham Hotspur in England. However, this doesn’t diminish his talent. In a different system, in a different country, Lo Celso has found a new home.

Lo Celso joined Tottenham first on loan from Paris Saint Germain in 2019, and his move was made permanent a year later. He showed his talent, and lit up the Premier League on a few occasions—but that wasn’t enough for him to break into the North London club’s starting XI as a crucial player.

Instead, Lo Celso decided to move to a league that was more ‘technical’, and suited his abilities more. First, he left Spurs on loan (again) to join Villareal and while he looked more comfortable with the Yellow Submarines, there wasn’t a lot of output.

Villareal did not make Lo Celso’s move permanent, which is why he had to go back to London, until his former club Real Betis came calling. He joined the Seville-based club for around $4.5 million, and there is a reason why Lo Celso didn’t hesitate in completing this transfer.

Real Betis is the club where Lo Celso first shone, while he was on loan at the Benito Villamarin from PSG ahead of 19-20. So far, his combined Betis career has seen a better output from him than from all his other clubs combined.

La Liga TV commentator Tim Lee also pointed out on X (formerly Twitter), that Lo Celso has 21 goals in 50 games for Betis overall. In his other 267 appearances for other clubs, Lo Celso has 23 goals. A staggering difference. There is something about Los Verdiblancos that gets the best out of the Argentine.
