Milan Legend Paolo Maldini Could Join Inter in the Coming Months: Reports

Old rivalries don’t create new divides in football – something that could be proved correct, if Inter succeeds in its Daniel Maldini pursuit. Why that is huge? Because his father Paolo is a Milan legend, and played over 900 games for the Rossoneri.

Various sources in Italy, including FcInternews.it, have reported that Inter are monitoring Daniel Maldini. They state that earlier this week, Sporting Director Piero Ausilio was at the Stadio Brianteo to watch Monza vs Roma – with the former being Daniel’s current club.

Daniel’s “versatility, attacking characteristics and his age” are appealing to Inter, who will look to strengthen its squad over the winter/next summer break.

Daniel Maldini started his career at Milan in 2010 at the age of just eight. He climbed up the ranks to make his senior team debut in 2020, and also showed flashes of his brilliance, but he wasn’t able to break into the squad.

He went on loan to Spezia, Empoli and finally Monza, which is where he found a home. The 22-year-old has big potential, and has the ability to draw attention from some of Italy and Europe’s best clubs. Donning an Inter jersey on the other hand, will be an unfathomable thought for the Maldini family.

Daniel Maldini’s father, Paolo, is not the only Milan legend in the family. His grandfather, Cesare Maldini, also played over 350 games for the club and is a member of Milan’s Hall of Fame. Cesare went on to manage Milan, leading them to a European Cup Winners’ Cup and a Coppa Italia title in 1973.

Paolo Maldini continued the family legacy, winning 26 trophies with Milan and establishing himself as one of the greatest defenders in football history. After retiring, he joined the club’s boardroom.

Given this illustrious history, seeing Paolo’s son and Cesare’s grandson, Daniel, wearing the black and blue of Inter would be a bizarre sight—especially considering Inter, the 2023/24 Serie A champions, are Milan’s fierce rivals.
