Ange Postecoglou is under pressure, and understandably so, owing to Tottenham’s inconsistent performances in the Premier League which has kept the side in ninth position. According to reports, Newcastle’s Eddie Howe is now being touted as the Aussie’s replacement.
Postecoglou’s side infuriated the Spurs faithful in the last weekend leading up to the international break, when a shambolic second-half performance saw them give up a two-goal led to lost 3-2 away at Brighton.
Tottenham are bringing in a new investor — Amanda Staveley. She helped facilitate the Newcastle takeover by the Saudi Arabian consortium back in 2022. As such, she knows Howe and also knows what he will be capable of, given the chance.
“That was probably the worst defeat we’ve had since I’ve been here” 😬

The Sun reported that Staveley was impressed with the work Howe has done at Newcastle, taking the club back to the UEFA Champions League and rubbing shoulders with England’s best. Even now, the Magpies are two places ahead of Tottenham, just two points adrift of the top four.
Staveley had secured a 10% share in Newcastle after the Saudi takeover, but gave them up to focus on new challenges — which as it turns out, is to invest in Tottenham, a club that is starved for silverware.
The last trophy Tottenham won was in 2008 when they lifted the English League Cup. Postecoglou’s positivity and overall winning mindset were expected to bring about a change, but so far it has not borne fruit.
However, it is unlikely that Tottenham will fire their head coach so early on in the season, especially since just weeks ago, they defeated Manchester United 3-0 at Old Trafford.
Maybe not the Premier League, but Tottenham will be aiming for trophies this season — perhaps the FA Cup or the League Cup? Or something bigger, such as the UEFA Europa League.
