Ruben Amorim gave Manchester United fans a good taste of what to expect when his Sporting Lisbon side dismantled Manchester City in matchday four of the UEFA Champions League. Taking over the reins at Old Trafford in five days, Amorim has a lot to offer. But in particular, he seems excited at the opportunity to work with Leny Yoro.
The 18-year-old joined Manchester United ahead of the 24/25 season, but suffered a knock in pre-season that has kept him out until now. Yoro is back in training, and is slated to make a comeback soon, hopefully in time for Amorim’s first game in charge of the club — against Ipswich on November 24.
Fabrizio Romano broke the news of Yoro’s recovery, while also stating, “Rúben Amorim, looking forward to working with Yoro.”

Yoro is undeniably one of Europe’s top young center-backs, with several clubs, including Real Madrid, showing interest in him over the summer. However, the Frenchman opted for a move to Manchester United, where, despite the buzz, he failed to feature in a single game under the recently sacked manager Erik ten Hag.
Now, with the arrival of Amorim, Yoro will be eager to prove his worth and make a significant impact.
Amorim has revolutionized the game at Sporting Lisbon since his arrival in 2020. Renowned for his bold three-at-the-back system, he guided his hometown club to two Primeira Liga titles, including a historic first after a 19-year drought.
There’s no doubt that Amorim has earned cult status in Lisbon, and his departure will leave fans heartbroken. However, it’s likely that the Portuguese manager couldn’t turn down the chance to take charge of Manchester United, one of the biggest clubs in the world.

As a fitting farewell to Sporting, Amorim oversaw one of the club’s greatest victories— a stunning 4-1 triumph over Manchester City on Tuesday. The win was sealed by a remarkable hat-trick from Viktor Gyökeres, one of Europe’s most in-form strikers.
The Sporting faithful gave Amorim a heartfelt send-off, with a standing ovation and a tribute to all he achieved in the Portuguese capital over the past five years.
