Manchester United players gave Ruud van Nistelrooy the perfect farewell in his final game as interim manager, securing a 3-0 win over Leicester City in the Premier League. The last goal was a stunning curling shot into the top corner by Alejandro Garnacho.
Garnacho, however, struggled throughout the match. His recent form had been poor, and he made several avoidable mistakes against Leicester as well. When he finally scored, his celebration was subdued—uncharacteristically quiet.
Captain Bruno Fernandes immediately ran over to Garnacho, sensing how he felt. Garnacho was focused more on his past mistakes than the relief of scoring a brilliant goal to seal an important win for Manchester United.

“Garnacho scored a banger but didn’t celebrate like he should because he thinks he has lost faith from some fans. I told him people will always moan but lots of people like you and enjoy what you do,” Fernandes said to the BBC (as quoted by The Athletic)
Fernandes then revealed that he asked Garnacho to celebrate regardless, describing him as a decisive player, the likes of which are important in winning games.
Garnacho did not start Sunday’s game against the former Premier League champs, but van Nistelrooy put him on in the second half for some fresh attacking legs. The Argentine looked a bit sloppy but what was more visible was his hunger to prove those doubting him wrong.
New Manchester United Manager Ruben Amorim is set to take over the proceedings at Old Trafford starting Monday, so it will be interesting to see how the Portuguese boss uses Garnacho in his plans.
