“Something Special in the Special Club” – Ruben Amorim’s Connection With Manchester United and What Lies Ahead

Ruben Amorim, Manchester United Manager

Ruben Amorim has arrived at Manchester United, bringing a renewed sense of optimism that the club hasn’t felt in years. Rather than making bold claims about ending eras or boasting of titles won in Portugal, he is focused on building meaningful connections with everyone associated with what he recently described as a “special” club.

In his first press conference as Manchester United manager, held in the Old Trafford media room, Amorim shared his strong rapport with the club’s boardroom.

“I feel a deep connection with the people here, which is very important to me because I want to work with people I respect,” said the 39-year-old Portuguese manager (quoted by The Athletic). “Sir Jim, Sir Dave, and especially Omar, Dan, and Jason,” he added, emphasizing the importance of their collective vision.

Looking ahead, Amorim outlined the ambition shared by the entire club: “We want to achieve something special at this special club. That’s the key point.”

Sir Jim Ratcliffe and CEO Omar Berrada met with Ruben Amorim shortly after Erik ten Hag’s sacking earlier this year, and the project they presented to him immediately captivated him. Amorim knew the monumental task of restoring Manchester United to the top of English football would be his responsibility, but he was eager to take it on.

“When Manchester United talked to me, Omar, they told me about their plans, and you get excited,” he said.

Amorim is no stranger to rebuilding clubs. When he took over at Sporting Lisbon, they hadn’t won a Portuguese league title in over 19 years. Under his leadership, they claimed the title twice, and he leaves the club on a high, having recently defeated Manchester City 4-1 in the UEFA Champions League.

At Old Trafford, Amorim faces a similar challenge: guiding United to its first title since 2013—the final year of Sir Alex Ferguson’s reign.
