Wayne Rooney’s Last Stand: Plymouth Managerial Journey to Star in New Documentary

Wayne Rooney, Plymouth Argyle Manager

Not all great players make great managers—a cliché statement that rings even truer when considering Wayne Rooney, one of Manchester United’s biggest legends. During his prime playing days, Rooney was the star of the show week in and week out, but the same cannot be said about his managerial career, which is now set to receive a mainstream media push thanks to a new documentary.

The Athletic reported that anonymous sources revealed cameras have been following Rooney and the Plymouth players around this season, indicating that a new series is in the making.

Rooney joined Plymouth in 2024 after three underwhelming managerial spells at DC United, Derby County, and Birmingham City, the last of which lasted just 83 days.

Rooney, who lives in Plymouth, is a popular figure in the city, and the global attention the documentary could bring to the club may work wonders for them.

Currently, Plymouth competes in the Championship and sits 18th in the standings, with four wins, four draws, and seven defeats.

Plymouth was never considered a contender for promotion, which is why Rooney’s main task will be to avoid relegation and secure a respectable position that could set the stage for a Premier League push in 2025/26.
