Kerala Blasters kicked off their 24/25 Indian Super League season with a 2-1 victory over East Bengal on Sunday. However, coach Mikael Stahre was quick to downplay the performance as he highlighted several areas where the team fell short.
Per Stahre, Kerala is lacking is offense. Star Uruguayan forward Adrian Luna is out injured which has made things difficult for the team moving forward. “Someone who can play passes into the final third, keep the ball, assist, shoot, and score. He is one of the best players in the league and his unavailability is one of the major reasons for our struggle,” Stahre said, as quoted by Khel Now.

Blasters and East Bengal were “evenly matched,” according to Stahre, with the game capable of swinging either way. East Bengal initially took the lead but conceded shortly after, leading to Kerala dominating possession for the majority of the match.
In the 88th minute, substitute Kwame Peprah scored the decisive goal, securing Stahre’s first win in the Indian Super League (ISL).
Overall, however, the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kochi was concerned about the transition of the team in offense. Danish Farooq was deployed as an attacking midfielder to orchestrate the attack but Stahre did not see him as an ideal replacement.
