In 2022, when FIFA and EA Sports announced their split, many saw it as the end of an era. This also marked the conclusion of the FIFA eWorld Cup’s partnership with EA Sports, with its final edition played on FIFA 23, the last game in the series. Now, FIFA has struck a new deal with Konami, signaling the return of the tournament—albeit on a new platform.
Konami is a well-known name among fans, thanks to its popular ‘Pro Evolution Soccer’ series, which later became ‘eFootball’—a free-to-play game available across all platforms. However, it has garnered criticism for its graphics and gameplay.
The FIFA eWorld Cup qualifiers, starting on October 10, will now be played on eFootball, as will all subsequent rounds, including the knockouts and final.

“The purpose of the collaboration between KONAMI and FIFA is to further enhance the delight of the world football community through esports. With all of the players participating in the competition on behalf of the country and region, this effort takes the connection with the community to a new dimension,” Konami’s website stated.
In 2024, after FIFA and EA Sports parted ways, the eWorld Cup was hosted, just not in the form of a conventional football video-game tournament. Instead, FIFA announced it would take place on ‘Rocket League’ – where cars replaced humans and a gigantic ball replaces a normal one.
They also announced the start of a Football Manager World Cup – another popular game among the footballing community.
