“Win it yourself!” – Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou’s scathing reply to Spurs’ fans who called for their defeat against Manchester City

Tottenham Hotspurs didn’t have much to play for heading into the final month of the Premier League season, but had matches against TItle contenders Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City. They lost all three games, and manager Ange Postecoglou talks about the North London club’s inferior mentality following the same.

After losing to bitter rivals Arsenal, a portion of the Tottenham fan base started calling for their team to lose to Manchester City intentionally, to halt the Gunners’ chances of winning the Premier League Title.

Postecoglou understands rivalry, but couldn’t comprehend how his own fan base could call for a defeat, especially after what has been a difficult season.

During the pre-match press conference ahead of Spurs’ final game of the season against Sheffield United, the Greek boss said,

“You want to stop another club winning a trophy? Win it yourself!”

One of the things Big Anne wanted to change when he first came to North London was the club’s losing mindset. He admitted to walking down the tunnels of his home stadium and not feeling like they owned any bragging rights whatsoever.

Tottenham was having better results than Arsenal in the Premier league 3-4 years ago, but without any trophy to show for it, there is nothing, feels Postecglou.

Tottenham had top managers like Mauricio Pochetinno, Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte take charge of the club but to no avail, but Ange Postecoglou wants to go down in the history books and help them win their first trophy in sixteen years.

This season, Tottenham will finish 5th, unless Chelsea win with a goal difference better than them and they lose the final game of the season. The blues are 50 points, three behind their London rivals.
